Christian County Jailer Brad Boyd will retire following a 27-year career at the facility in Hopkinsville.
Boyd’s retirement will become effective July 31. In a letter to Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble, Boyd announced his intention to retire and said it was a decision he came to after much thought and discussion with his family.
Boyd added it had been an honor to serve the citizens of Christian County. He added with confidence that the county has the best jail in the state, with an awesome staff who carry out the day-to-day tasks.
In the letter, Boyd thanked the voters of Christian County for providing him the opportunity to serve as Jailer. He was elected to the position in 2006 and said he would assist in any way he can as Judge Tribble fills his vacancy. The replacement will fill the rest of Boyd’s term, which ends in 2022.
During his time as Jailer, Boyd was named the Kentucky Jailers Association’s ‘Jailer of the Year’ in 2016 and 2019.
In a statement, Boyd said his retirement has nothing to do with the comment from a recent audit regarding the purchase of snack cakes through a school fundraiser with commissary funds. He added the products were purchased and sold at a profit through the canteen. He said he has nothing to hide.
