A traffic stop on East 9th Street in Hopkinsville for a seatbelt violation led to a large amount of drugs and a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say 31-year-old Jamie Whitworth of Princeton was stopped for not wearing a seat belt and during the stop, she claimed she had just bought the vehicle and did not have proper registration or insurance.
After further investigation, the vehicle was found to have been stolen out of Elkton and had not had registration since 2018.
Police say Whitworth and her passenger 30-year-old Amber Gillespie of Kuttawa were taken into custody and a search of the vehicle led police to 43 grams of suspected meth, scales, syringes, marijuana, and a bottle of pills with an incorrect label.
They were both arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence possession of marijuana and trafficking meth.
Whitworth was also charged with receiving stolen property and display of illegal or altered registration plates.
