Cadiz Police Department Awarded ‘Spirit of Blue’ Grant

The Cadiz Police Department has been awarded a combination of grants from the 2021 Spirit of Blue Foundation and the Trooper Cameron Ponder Memorial — totaling more than $5,900 earmarked for safety and equipment.

During Tuesday’s Cadiz City Council meeting, Cadiz Police Chief Duncan Wiggins noted the grants will help purchase trauma kits for his eight officers on staff, something that’s been needed in just the last 10 months.

According to spiritofblue.org, the foundation both develops and executes its fundraising campaigns on a national level, in considerable efforts to promote public awareness and provide safety grants to law enforcement agencies nationwide.

“We are dedicated to the support of the men and women in blue who dedicate their lives to protect our communities,” spiritofblue.org writes. “Through our efforts and the support from people like you, we are able to provide safety grants to law enforcement agencies across the country and protect the lives of our officers.”

Typical trauma kits can come with a wide array of items, but should include a number of heavy-duty materials such as hemostatic dressings, several regular-sized dressings, a combination of wraps and gauze, heavy-duty 1″ and 2″ tape, open chest injury seals, tourniquets and other targeted implements.

In other Cadiz Police news:

  • For the month of July, Wiggins reports 38 cases were investigated, 19 people were arrested, 388 calls fielded response and service, 19 vehicles were stopped, 24 citations were issued and 10 traffic collisions (with three injuries) were handled.
  • And on August 9 at 7:30 a.m., Fredonia native Boyd Bates will be sworn in to the Cadiz Police Department.
  • The Cadiz Police Department still has one opening remaining for an officer.
