A Hopkinsville man charged with attempted murder in connection to a March shooting at a Hopkinsville gas station appeared in Christian County Circuit Court Monday morning for a pretrial conference.
21-year old Jaylynn Cheatham was also indicted by the grand jury Friday on additional charges unrelated to the shooting. The grand jury returned two indictments on charges of second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, and first-degree wanton endangerment from a May 2nd incident, along with second-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault from a May 7th incident.
Cheatham appeared virtually from the Christian County Jail with his attorney David Rye in the courtroom before Judge Andrew Self. Judge Self addressed the latest indictments first with Cheatham waiving the reading of the indictments and entering not guilty pleas.
With three pending indictments, Rye said he is waiting on discovery and requested another court date for later this month to allow him time to review the documents.

In the most serious case, Cheatham is charged with attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and four counts of wanton endangerment. The charges stem from March 27th when Cheatham allegedly shot 20-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville and 38-year old Bryan Jones of Cadiz at the Marathon gas station on East 9th Street. Police said Quarles was shot several times and transported by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. Jones reportedly showed up at Jennie Stuart Medical Center after the shooting where he was treated and released.
Cheatham remains lodged in the Christian County Jail.
