The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Heat Advisory for portions of western Kentucky until 8:00 Tuesday night.
According to meteorologists, a peak afternoon heat index around 105 is forecast for portions of western Kentucky, coupled with the hot temperatures and high humidity which could cause some heat-related illnesses.
As we go into the afternoon hours, the area could see some scattered thunderstorms which may provide some temporary relief from the heat.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
If you are going to be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids and try to stay in the shade as much as possible or stay in an air-conditioned room. Also, check on your neighbors to make sure they are not suffering from the heat. And don’t forget about your pets…make sure they have plenty of water to drink and shade.
In addition, try to reschedule any strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours.
Anyone who is overcome by the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. A heat stroke is an emergency and you should call 911.
