A wreck on Interstate 24 in Christian County led to several live pigs being released and a man being flown to a Nashville hospital Wednesday morning.
Christian County emergency personnel say an eastbound tractor-trailer hauling live pigs overturned after swerving to avoid a vehicle that pulled out in front of it just east of the Pennyrile Parkway exit. The crash led to several pigs getting out of the tractor-trailer and onto the interstate.
Authorities say the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered severe injuries to his face and was flown to Skyline Medical Center. An eastbound SUV behind the tractor-trailer then struck a pig on the interstate damaging the vehicle.
The crash happened just after 4 am and is expected to cause the interstate to be shut down in the area for several hours.
Eastbound drivers are asked to exit onto Pennyrile Parkway northbound and use Fort Campbell Boulevard to get back onto Interstate 24 at Exit 86.
