I-24 Reopened But Question Remains – Why So Many Truck Crashes In Trigg County?

Interstate 24 in Trigg County reopened around 2 pm Tuesday after being shut down for nearly 24 hours due to a tractor-trailer crash Monday afternoon.

A nine-mile section of I-24 between the Cadiz and Blue Springs exits was closed Monday afternoon after a semi-trailer crashed and caught fire. The driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the section of road where the crash occurred needed extensive repairs.

Todd said there are marked detour routes but large trucks have opted to ignore them and take smaller country roads not designed for their use. And that has caused problems.

Todd says he can’t put his finger on why so many crashes are happening in the Trigg County construction zone.
