Longtime State Representative Brent Yonts Dies Of COVID-19

According to multiple reports, former Kentucky Representative Brent Yonts has died after a two-week battle with COVID-19.

A Democratic representative for House District 15 from 1997-2016, the Greenville native served parts of Muhlenberg, Christian and Hopkins counties for the better part of two decades.

Hopkinsville Democrat and former Representative Jeff Taylor told the Louisville Courier-Journal Yonts served as a mentor and friend instrumental in launching his political career.

In a message from Andy Beshear, the Kentucky Governor called Yonts “a leader who worked to better the lives of Kentuckians across the Commonwealth.”

Per the Louisville Courier-Journal, the 72-year-old Yonts was fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, but contracted it and eventually went on a ventilator before his death early Friday morning.
