Christian Fiscal Court To Lower Property Tax Rate

For the first time in recent memory, Christian County is lowering its property tax rate following action Tuesday by the Christian County Fiscal Court.

The first reading of the annual tax rate ordinance was approved by an 8-0 vote. It will lower the real estate tax rate from 18.7 to 18.6 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The new rate will still bring in $6.7 million to the county’s coffers.

Assistant County Attorney Lincoln Foster read aloud the proposed tax rates to the fiscal court.

In other business, the fiscal court approved the routine payment of bills and heard a report from Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace who said over 430 animals were accepted by the shelter in July alone. She said that was a significant increase from the previous month. She said there were 99 adoptions for the month.

Fiscal court also took time to remember former magistrate and Crofton Mayor Lewis Croft who died last week.
