After mostly dry conditions across the region this week, our area could receive several inches of rainfall next week as remnants of Hurricane Ida tracks across western Kentucky.
As of Saturday morning, Weather Edge Forecaster David Powell says the National Hurricane Center is saying Hurricane Ida will become a Category 4 catastrophic storm and could strengthen into a Category 5 with winds of 157 mph by the time it makes landfall and impacts the Louisiana Coast by Sunday. He says our area could see windy conditions and very heavy rain with 4 to 6 inches of rainfall possible.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the latest forecasts continue to put the heaviest rainfall over west Kentucky, especially over parts of the Purchase and Pennyrile regions. Meteorologists indicate most of the rain will likely fall from Tuesday into Tuesday night and could lead to flooding, especially in poorly drained and low-lying areas. In addition, gusty winds surrounding Ida may also cause issues for some trees and structures that may be weakened by torrential rainfall on Tuesday.
