Jeffers Bend Naturefest Week Set for September 13-18

City and county officials, along with members of the Pennyrile Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D) Inc. and Jeffers Bend Steering Committee will gather next Tuesday for the signing of a proclamation declaring the week of September 13-18 as Naturefest Week at Jeffers Bend Environmental Center.

The week will be full of activities at Jeffers Bend and includes:

– Monday – The public is encouraged to walk the three miles of trails at Jeffers Bend to give citizens the opportunity to exercise in a quiet environment while observing birds, squirrels, wild turkey and other wildlife; various trees and other plants.

Tuesday – The public is urged to visit Jeffers Bend to see the variety of gardens that include the new Botanical garden, community garden, rain garden, butterfly garden, children garden, master gardeners garden, etc.

Wednesday – Those who love birds are encouraged to bring birdseed to the Jeffers Bend Welcome Center.

Thursday – Bird lovers and novices alike are encouraged to visit the bird observatory to watch birds feeding.

Friday – Individuals are encouraged to visit the Jeffers Bend Welcome Center and talk to volunteers about the history, accomplishments, and ongoing programs.

And Saturday afternoon the week will culminate with the annual Naturefest event from 1:00 until 5:00 that includes 40 activities from archery, canoeing, horses and various animals to storytelling, face painting, pumpkin painting and more.

Then from 5:30 until 6:30 Saturday evening, there will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony at the Jeffers Bend Patio.
