With job fairs on the rise in west Kentucky, it’s time to add another one to the calendar.
Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Murray State University’s CFSB Center in Murray, hopeful or disgruntled employees can meet with a variety of employers from around the region — full-time or part-time work available to those considerably interested and able.
During Monday’s Pennyrile Allied Development District meeting in Hopkinsville, West Kentucky Workforce Board Director Sheila Clark said while this specific job fair will likely target former employees of the once long-tenured Briggs & Stratton facility in Calloway County, several different opportunities will be available for regional workers looking for the next career.
And solid attendance numbers have been noted in recent weeks.
Assistance with resumes will also be available at the job fair, and a mobile career center will be on site to help create resumes, as well as ease the difficulties of applying for regional positions online.
Clark added one of the more important faculties of these recent job fairs has, in fact, been helping people update their job credentials.
Planning to attend? Use Entrance B of the CFSB Center, near the parking lot. Masks will be required at the event.
Meanwhile, unemployment claims and the accompanying insurance relief continues to be slow-going, Clark reported. Per the Lane Report, Kentucky’s July 2021 unemployment rate was 4.4 percent — equal to June’s percentage.
But it is 1.2 percentage points lower than this time last year, when it was 5.6 percent of Kentuckians without employment.
