Are those decorations going up in downtown Cadiz? They aren’t just for kicks.
According to Cadiz City Clerk Barbie Johnson, the 2021 and 45th Annual Trigg County Ham Festival, scheduled for the weekend of October 8, is a full-go — despite rampant speculation, question, and concern about the beloved local celebration.
Following a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the coronavirus continues to be a concern in the area, as the raging “Delta” variant is well-seated in west Kentucky.
However, Johnson said contact with the Governor’s Office has been positive, and the mostly outdoor event will join the several other large gatherings the region has observed in the last eight weeks.
Johnson said city employees, as well as volunteers, will be masked for the event, while those visiting are certainly encouraged to wear masks despite its outdoor nature.
Speaking of city employees, the City of Cadiz has announced that Darlene Butts has been named “Rennaisance on Main” director and that the city will no longer be using the official “Main Street” moniker — which is governed by the state’s “Main Street” program.
Butts currently serves as a culinary specialist for Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee, and will soon be replacing former director Casey Parrent — someone Johnson said is continuing some critical duties from home while transitions take place.
Johnson added the Trigg County Ham Festival Committee met earlier this week for more planning.
