Christian County will have a rare Republican primary in the race for county judge-executive after a local businesswoman announced Wednesday that she is running for the office.
Katie Moyer announced on social media that she will be running on the Republican ticket for the county’s top post. She is the owner of Kentucky Hemp Works and was a former field representative for Governor Matt Bevin.
In her announcement, she said it’s time to shed the “good old boy” system and bring in a challenger who is young, effective, and uniquely experienced in government issues. She added she will launch a website soon.
Moyer is the second Republican to announce intentions to run in the 2022 primary election. Fiscal court magistrate Jerry Gilliam has also announced a run at the seat currently held by Democrat Steve Tribble, who has not officially announced if he will seek re-election.
