Hopkinsville Man Charged In East 1st Street Shooting

A Hopkinsville man has been charged after a shooting that led to a man being severely injured on East 1st Street near the intersection of North Vine Street Sunday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 49-year-old Marque Fricks of Hopkinsville was shot by 52-year-old Kenneth Quarles just before 1 pm and suffered injuries to his neck and head. Quarles allegedly shot Fricks with a 9mm gun then pointed it at a woman and told her she didn’t want to get involved.

Fricks was rushed to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to meet with a waiting helicopter to transfer him to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Authorities say Fricks injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Quarles fled the area after the shooting but was located on McHenry Street and police say he claimed he shot Fricks because Fricks reached for a gun.

Quarles is charged with first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree wanton endangerment, and intimidating a participant in a legal process.

East 1st Street was blocked for several hours as law enforcement investigated the shooting.
