Hopkinsville City Council recognized the City’s Finance Division for receiving another Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Finance Reporting and approved grant funding for two agencies along with additional funding for future street resurfacing/paving projects.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, Mayor Wendell Lynch recognized Chief Financial Officer/CPA Robert Martin and the Finance Team for receiving the coveted Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Finance Reporting for the 27th year in a row.
In other business, following a motion by Councilman Terry Parker to amend the $1.5 million from American Rescue Recovery Funds to include an additional half a million dollars, council members approved $2 million for resurfacing and paving 14 miles of the city’s streets.
Council members also approved a $50,000 T-Mobile Community Grant to be split equally between two local agencies. As previously reported by the News Edge, the Museums of Hopkinsville-Christian County will receive $25,000 for repairs and painting the town clock on the Woody Winfree Fire-Transportation Museum and the remaining $25,000 will be transferred to the Boys and Girls Club for technological upgrades.
And a municipal order authorizing the transfer of the third CARES Act payment of $231,094 to the General Fund to the Future Pension Obligation Reserve failed to pass by a 6 to 5 vote. Jason Bell, Chuck Crabtree, Travis Martin, Terry Parker, Tom Johnson, and Steve Keel voted no. Alethea West was absent from the meeting with Mayor Lynch noting that she was attending city training.
