Swykert Pleads Guilty to DUI, Murder In June 2020 LBL Case

Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie-Ovey Wiggins and her office opposed both probation and shock probation for Texas man Christopher Swykert, who was charged with the DUI and death of a Houston man and Ft. Campbell soldier in a June 2020 LBL crash.

In early August, a settlement in the case of Texas man Christopher Swykert — charged with DUI and murder in connection to a June 2020 incident at Land Between the Lakes — was reportedly close.

During Wednesday’s Trigg County Circuit Court docket, Swykert plead guilty under the recommendation of his attorney, Hopkinsville’s Bill Deatherage, and in agreement with the Commonwealth’s Attorney office — in which Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins noted comprised of a 5-year recommended sentencing, with no recommendation of both probation and shock probation for the defendant.

Swykert will be formally sentenced on December 8.

According to state police details, Swykert’s charges came June 20 of last year, when he was driving southbound along The Trace, failed to navigate a curve and ran off the road.

When his vehicle overturned and crashed into a tree, police noted that Harry Daniel Kincaid, a 19-year-old soldier at Fort Campbell and Houston native, died in the crash.

A trial date for Swykert was set for August 8, 2022 at 9 a.m., but this plea agreement has avoided this measure.

Swykert was out on bond after being lodged at the Christian County Jail, but remained in Trigg County until this resolution occurred.
