An investigation into two threats of a school shooting in Lyon County led to charges for a juvenile Thursday afternoon.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says an investigation into two threats of a school shooting at Lyon County Middle School sent on social media led to the arrest of a 13-year-old.
The first threat was reportedly posted on Monday and a second on Tuesday in both cases law enforcement searched the school and found no immediate threat to staff or students.
White says he petitioned Lyon County Circuit Court for a search warrant seeking electronic evidence and it was granted.
A search of an Eddyville home reportedly led to evidence and the arrest of a 13-year-old on Thursday.
The juvenile is charged with falsely reporting an incident, and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.
White says at this time, they do not believe there was an imminent threat of safety to the students at Lyon County Middle School.
Law enforcement was first notified of the threat by the middle school and White says he is appreciative of the professionalism and dedication to safety exhibited by the Lyon County School District’s administration and staff as they investigated the threats.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Eddyville Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and the US Department of Homeland Security.
