Lake Barkley State Resort Park Lodge To Remain Closed For Several Days

The main lodge at Lake Barkley State Resort Park will remain closed for most of the coming week as crews work to clean up and repair following a Saturday morning fire that resulted in several lodge rooms being damaged.

Danielle Jones, a spokeswoman with the Kentucky Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Cabinet, said the lodge will be closed through at least Thursday, December 2. The golf course, fitness center, and marina are not affected by the closure.

Jones said no park employees or guests were injured as a result of the fire with lodge guests relocated to Kenlake State Resort Park. Jones added guests of the state park’s cottages and cabins, which are located away from the lodge, were not impacted directly.

Firefighters from four Trigg County departments responded just after 10 Saturday morning to a fire in the boiler room of the lodge. When they arrived, part of the building was engulfed in flames. The Trigg-Lyon, East Golden Pond, Montgomery, and Cadiz fire departments all responded to the scene.

The fire was contained to the lodge rooms on the west side of the horseshoe-shaped structure and did not impact the main lodge office, rooms on the east side, the dining room, or the convention center.

Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant told the News Edge’s John Godsey on the scene that at least eight rooms were damaged in the fire.

Bryant went on to say that none of the rooms were occupied by guests when the fire began and that electricity to the lodge was cut off as firemen worked to extinguish the fire and determine its origin.
