Christian County has shown an increase in active COVID-19 cases for a third straight week as post-Thanksgiving numbers continue an upward trend. There were also eight deaths linked to the virus reported in Christian County with seven the result of the state’s ongoing review.
One of the deaths occurred in December with four coming from November. Two others were deaths in September and another in May. The health department said the deaths ranged in age from 56 to 91 — all were unvaccinated and all had underlying health conditions. The COVID deaths are the first reported in Christian County since November 10.
The health department reports 362 active cases in Christian County — the most since September 23 and nearly double the total from two weeks ago. Active cases in both the 21-and-under and the 60 and older age groups have nearly doubled in the past month.
Pediatric cases are also showing an increase over last month with 78 reported in December. That’s on a track for 268 this month compared to 151 in November and 76 in October. The most were 457 in August.
