White Confirms LyonTornado Fatality, Shares Stories of Survivors

Lyon County Judge-executive Wade White has confirmed one tornado-related fatality as a result of the severe storm that moved through western Kentucky Friday night.

In addition to the death, White said seven or eight people were injured as the tornado moved just north of the Eddy Creek area around 10 Friday night.

click to download audioWhite said about 80 homes were damaged or destroyed in the tornado’s path that included Blue Ridge Road, Mountain View Road, Kelsey Jo Lane, and Rose Lane. He said the damage was extensive.

click to download audioAs he went through the area to check on residents to see what they needed, White said the stories he heard from those who survived the storm are incredible.

click to download audioSaturday night, White and his daughter Jenna made a social media post asking for volunteers to help clear trees and debris in the path of destruction. He said the response was overwhelming and a bit emotional.

click to download audioWhite asks people to stack vegetation separate from trash debris and the county will get to it as fast as possible. He added burning the tree debris is another way to get rid of it as long as it’s in the right time frame per the state’s burning law.

He said they don’t need donations of clothes and supplies but does ask people to donate gift cards to different businesses and that he will make sure they get to the victims so they can purchase what they need.
