The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with stealing items from boats in a neighborhood severely damaged by last week’s tornado.
Shawn T. Nevels was observed and photographed by residents of the Cambridge Shores area. They took pictures of Nevels and the boat he used to access the area. An employee of Southern Komfort Camp and Marina spotted Nevels and contacted the sheriff’s office.
Deputy Nathan Maxlow interviewed Nevels, who admitted to taking the items and throwing them into the lake when he saw that he was being photographed by the vigilant citizens.
Nevels was charged with theft over $1,000, violation of an order or administrative regulation, and tampering with physical evidence.
Cambridge Shores was hit hard by Friday’s tornado which then crossed northern Land Between the Lakes and later into Lyon County.
