A major retailer is giving back in a big way to Caldwell County and surrounding communities by offering free showers, laundry services, and a lot more to those affected by Friday night’s tornado.
In an interview with WPKY Thursday afternoon, Princeton Walmart Manager Margaret Hayes says they were able to mobilize three shower trailers on Wednesday.
Hayes says they also have a full-service laundry trailer where you can drop off your clothes and then pick up your clothes the next morning.
According to Hayes, the associates at her store and a service they have hired are washing the clothes.
She says they also have the ability to fill water jugs.
And they have charging stations inside at the front of Walmart for those who still don’t have electricity.
In addition, Hayes says she has been gifted $10,000 from the home office to help — not only in Caldwell County — but also Lyon County and Dawson Springs since the Princeton Walmart is the closest store to their communities.
According to Hayes, she has more than a dozen associates in her store who lost their homes during the tornado or were damaged. She says it’s been overwhelming to see the resilience of the community.
Hayes says they are also mobilized in other areas across western Kentucky that were affected by Friday night’s tornadoes.
Mainly, Hayes says, they want to get the word out that the Walmart store is here to help for the long haul.
Hayes says the drop-off for laundry is 8 a.m. to noon, and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the showers are operational from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. However, she adds if the need is greater than that they will extend the times. Hayes says all of these services are free.
Walmart in Princeton is located at 1500 U.S. 62 West.
