Hopkins County EMA Director Nick Bailey
Hopkins County Emergency Management has announced that all unaccounted people displaced in last week’s tornado have now been located.
Earlier in the week, there were over 100 people unaccounted for in Dawson Springs as a twister leveled over 60-percent of the town. Those numbers dwindled throughout the week as people were located staying with other family members or in shelters.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Utilities announced Friday that all power has been restored in Hopkins County with the exception of the sections that are a total loss with no standing structures.
Officials also announced there is a boil water advisory is in effect until further notice for the following areas of Dawson Springs: East Walnut, East Hall, East Keigan, and any street connecting to these streets. This is due to a water main break in the area.
Hopkins County residents seeking assistance for clearing from their property need to separate their debris into four categories — appliances, brush, construction materials, and hazardous materials. Once that is completed, residents need to contact the Hopkins County EMA hotline at (270) 825-5024 and schedule a time to meet with a debris-clearing representative. A number of 40-yard dumpsters will be placed throughout the Dawson Springs area this weekend.
Anyone wishing to volunteer in Dawson Springs needs to check in with the Hopkins County EMS hotline before arriving. That number is 270-825-5024.
