Names Released In Pennyrile Parkway Fatal Crash

Authorities have released the name of a Newburgh, Indiana, woman that was killed in a wreck on Pennyrile Parkway five miles south of the Crofton exit Thursday afternoon.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say a northbound vehicle driven by 63-year-old Lula Faye Bailey hit a guard rail around the Cavanah Lane overpass causing the vehicle to overturn.

Lula Bailey and her passenger 66-year-old Reverend Matory J. Bailey of Newburgh, Indiana, were trapped in the vehicle. Mr. Bailey was reportedly freed from the vehicle by other people in the area but Lula Bailey died after a fire engulfed the vehicle.

Lula Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner’s Office. Pennyrile Parkway was blocked in the area for several hours as the crash was investigated.

Deputies say a second wreck due to stopped traffic from the first wreck in the northbound lanes led to a car hitting an SUV pushing it into a second car.

The driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for injuries. Reverend Bailey is the pastor of Little Valley Baptist Church in Evansville, IN.

The first crash happened just before 5 pm and the second wreck happened just before 7 pm.
