Trigg County officials have begun the process of looking into storm shelters after record-breaking tornadoes swept through Kentucky in the last month.
County-resident Jan Culwell suggested the county designate shelters during the December 20 meeting, a little over one week after an EF-4 tornado damaged surrounding counties.
Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander told magistrates during Monday evening’s meeting County Emergency Management Director David Bryant has been calling churches to see if they could be utilized as storm shelters.
Alexander added the price of stand-alone shelters is considerable.
Alexander said he expects Bryant to make a full report to magistrates soon, possibly next month.
Alexander again took the time to thank the Cadiz-Trigg County community for donating to a gift card drive spearheaded by Bryant. As the News Edge has previously reported, over $30,000 in gift cards were collected over the holiday season.
The gift cards will be donated to those affected by the December 10 and 11 tornadoes, with donations still being accepted at Alexander’s office.
Their next meeting will be Tuesday, January 18, as Monday of that week is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
