Former Pembroke City Councilman, Decorated Army Veteran Downey Dies

Funeral services for former Pembroke City Councilman Clifford Joseph Downey will be Thursday at Maddux Fuqua Hinton Funeral in Hopkinsville. Downey died Sunday of natural causes. He was 81.

Downey was an Ohio native and U.S. Army veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for his service to his country.

Downey served two terms on the Pembroke City Council and worked for the Civil Service at Fort Campbell where he received Employee of the year in 1995. He also was a member of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department and served as assistant fire chief.
