U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has announced over $470 million in funding to improve and complete projects at the Kentucky Dam and Barkley Dam.

The funding is part of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Disaster Supplemental Appropriations Act. The Senate passed both bills into law last year.

The $465 million going to the Kentucky Lock and Dam will complete a project aimed at eliminating current delays that are said to hinder the $5 billion worth of commerce that comes through the lock annually.

Just over $7 million is headed to Lake Barkley Dam to replace a storm-damaged powerhouse generator roof system. Money will also be used to replace facilities at the Linton Recreational Area, and pave roads and ramps at Coleman Bridge in Lyon County and at Calhoun Hill and Hurricane Creek in Trigg County.

McConnell also announced $965,000 for Barkley Dam and Lake Barkley to dredge navigation channels, replant native trees, and assist with tornado recovery.
