Road Crews Working to Remove Ice, Trees From Roads

Kentucky Department of Transportation crews as well as city and county work crews are continuing to plow and treat roads while in some places, the transition was made to cut and clear trees that fell across roads.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in District 1 said the main concentration Thursday afternoon was plowing slush off the roads so that it does not freeze overnight.

click to download audioTodd said work crews in Trigg County had to make the transition to cutting and removing trees in the Rockcastle area Thursday afternoon.

click to download audioTodd said the Trace in Land Between The Lakes has closed due to downed trees and power being out at the headquarters near Golden Pond. He said the Trace could remain closed for several days until plans can be worked out to clear the roadway.

Todd added power was out at the maintenance facility in Lyon County Thursday afternoon with reports of downed trees and some roads blocked in Lyon, Calloway, and Marshall counties.

He said more work will be done tonight and early Friday but thawing may not occur until Sunday.
