Lots of sunshine is helping snowfighters in their efforts to clear accumulated ice, sleet, and snow from area highways Saturday.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the forecasted high around 30 degrees and the sunshine helped raise the pavement temperatures and reactivated the melting process, a much-needed boost for highway crews.
While Saturday night’s expected low is around 13 degrees, Todd says this creates some concern about refreezing, but the sunshine is expected to dry most roadway surfaces during the day. However, he adds motorists who plan to be out and about overnight should continue to use appropriate caution.
