Curtis Enters ‘Not Guilty’ Plea On Infant Murder Charge

Formal reading was waived and a plea of “not guilty” was entered on the behalf of 28-year-old Shaylynn Curtis Tuesday, during her arraignment for murder of an infant in Trigg County Circuit Court.

Public defender Cody Hooks noted while Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins had already provided some preliminary discovery, he wanted to have discussions with a third-party — who was present for Curtis’ Tuesday arraignment.

Already charged with abuse of a corpse, a Class D felony punishable up to five years in prison, Ovey-Wiggins once again noted that the two cases will eventually be combined into one because they deal with the same criminal act.

Following a Kentucky State Police investigation completed in October 2021, Curtis allegedly took the body of her deceased 5-month-old, wrapped the child in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of her home on East Adams Mill Road.

At the time, the child had reportedly been dead for nearly 24 hours.

Police reports further indicate that Curtis made no attempts at calls for emergency assistance or medical attention for the infant. Law enforcement arrived following phone calls from associates of Curtis, seeking wellness checks for the child.

Her next pre-trial conference was set for April 13.
