Christian County school board members approved two waivers and a schematic design review related to the construction of the consolidated high school project at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Lover’s Lane.
During a special called workshop that was postponed last week due to inclement weather, Assistant Superintendent Josh Hunt requested the board approve a waiver to decentralize the media center at Wednesday night’s meeting. He said the design allowed for a centralized media center but they felt it would be better to have a media center in each academy.

The board also unanimously approved a waiver to allow for no windows in select classrooms, which Hunt said is about 5% of the learning space.
click to download audioHe added this is very common for classrooms to not have natural light, but if required by the Kentucky Department of Education, he noted they could install tubular lights.

click to download audioIn other action, the board approved the final payment of approximately $1,166 to American Engineers, Inc. for the consolidated high school project.
During presentations, Facilities Coordinator Trevor Herndon announced that both Freedom and Indian Hills Elementary Schools earned the U.S. Environmental Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification for superior energy performance. This is Freedom Elementary’s third ENERGY STAR certification and Indian Hills Elementary’s second ENERGY STAR.
Herndon credits the ENERGY STAR certifications to new HVAC equipment, new building controls, LED lighting, new roofing insulation, and a dedicated energy-focused facilities team.
