18-Month Old Killed In I-24 Marshall County Crash

State police report several collisions are being investigated as a result of ice on the Tennessee River Bridge on I-24 in Marshall County Wednesday night, including a crash involving the tragic death of an 18-month old child.

According to state police, the fatal crash occurred just after 11:00 p.m. when a semi-trailer driven by 33-year old Chabrielle-Darnisha Hester of Dallas, Texas rear-ended another semi-trailer being driven by 45-year old Quentin Glen of Monticello, Florida. Police say an 18-month old passenger of the semi being driven by Hester was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and then struck by another vehicle driven by 19-year old Christian Vasallo of Franklin, North Carolina. The child was pronounced dead on the scene by the Marshall County Coroner. The child was reportedly not restrained in the vehicle at the time of the collision. State police indicate once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to a prosecutor for decisions regarding any potential criminal charges.

State police say while they were investigating a crash that occurred at the bridge, five additional collisions occurred in the vicinity. Police report seven total wrecks were reported involving a dozen tractor-trailers and six-passenger cars.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District One spokesman Keith Todd says emergency responders were very busy through the overnight hours.

Another wreck in the vicinity involved a cattle trailer, resulting in cattle escaping onto the roadway.

Todd adds they are still working with law enforcement to determine the cause of the crashes.

State police are being assisted with the wreck investigations by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. State police were also assisted on scene by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
