A bill that passed the Kentucky House of Representatives Monday will result in a new circuit and family court judge posts in Trigg and Christian Counties.
House Bill 214, sponsored by Representatives Walker Thomas and Jason Petrie, calls for the creation of a second circuit judge post in the 56th Circuit that includes Trigg, Caldwell, Lyon, and Livingston Counties. The bill also calls for the addition of a second family court judge in Christian County.
According to information from Christian County Family Court Judge Jason Fleming the Kentucky Supreme Court has certified a statewide redistricting plan where 9 jurisdictions in Kentucky that immediately need additional judges would get their much needed relief beginning in January 2022 and 9 jurisdictions where statistics show there are too many judges would lose judges in 2027.
56th District Judge Jamus Redd, who is the only candidate seeking the 56th Circuit court judge post, says House Bill 214 is a great first start towards giving the citizens of the 56th Circuit quicker access to justice. Christian County Family Court Judge Jason Fleming says Christian County is one of the highest caseloads of Family Courts in Kentucky and a second family Court Judge will help children and families have their cases heard in a more expedient manner involving military families.
House Bill 214 is now headed to the Kentucky Senate for consideration.
