Three nominees have been announced for the 56th Circuit Court judicial vacancy to fill the remainder of retiring Judge Woody Woodall’s term.
The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., announced Jill L. Giordano of Princeton, H.B. Quinn of Cadiz, and James Rodman Redd III of Cadiz as the nominees.
Giordano is in private law practice and serves as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the 56th Judicial Circuit. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.
Quinn is in private law practice and serves as the master commissioner for Trigg County after serving many years as the county attorney. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law, now the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law.
Redd serves as a district court judge for the 56th Judicial District. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law, now the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law.
The judicial seat became vacant when Judge C.A. Woodall III resigned effective Jan. 31. However, Woodall has been presiding over circuit court matters in the district until his replacement is named.
Redd is the only one of the three to officially file to run for the circuit judge seat in the May primary election. If he is named to the post before the election, someone would have to be appointed to fill the remainder of his term which has already attracted three candidates in the May primary.
Governor Andy Beshear appointed Terrie White of Eddyville, Donnie Holland of Cadiz, and Michael Oliver and Phillip Sisk, both of Princeton to the judicial nominating committee. They, along with Chief Justice Minton, and two lawyers elected by all the lawyers in their district, met and decided on the list to submit to Beshear, who now has 60 days to appoint Judge Woodall’s replacement from the list.
