More headway was made in a pair of cases against 31-year-old Montie E. Streeval, of Cadiz, Wednesday afternoon in Trigg County Circuit Court — when public defender Cody Hooks affirmed that he’s received discovery from Streeval’s former attorney, Bill Deatherage.
Hooks told Circuit Judge C.A. “Woody” Woodall III that he’ll be reviewing it for at least the next month.
Hooks said he’s already spoken with Streeval’s family and will be meeting with Streeval this Sunday to discuss the case. Hooks added that there will likely be a bond motion accompanying this case in the near future, and Woodall noted he would rule on that at a later time as the case moves toward trial.
Streeval’s next appearance before the court will be April 13. He’s charged with the 2020 killing of a Muhlenberg County man, Cameron Phillips of Powderly, before dumping his body near a wooded area in eastern Trigg County and close to a cemetery on Old Rocky Point Road.
He’s also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. In January 2015, Streeval — then of Hopkinsville — received a five-year sentence for third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, while having to repay more than $400 in restitution to Saints Peter and Paul Church.
