A new trial date has been set after a resolution couldn’t be reached in the attempted murder case of a Hopkinsville man charged in connection to a shooting at a convenience store in March of 2021.
Jaylynn Cheatham is accused of shooting 20-year old Darrius Quarles, of Hopkinsville, and 38-year old Bryan Jones, of Cadiz, on March 27, 2021 at the Marathon gas station on East 9th and South Campbell streets. Police said Quarles was shot several times and was transported by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. Jones reportedly showed up at Jennie Stuart Medical Center after the shooting where he was treated and released.
In court Monday morning, Cheatham’s defense attorney David Rye and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling appeared before Christian Circuit Court Judge Andrew Self. Rye said they have not been able to reach a resolution in the case and asked for a trial date to be set.

In addition to attempted murder, Cheatham is charged in this case with two counts of first-degree assault and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He is also facing assault, strangulation, and wanton endangerment charges in two other cases in Christian Circuit Court.
