The candidates for Christian County Sheriff agree on many issues including priorities for the department, the need to address increased violence, and the importance of training.
The second night of the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters' debates featured Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond and challenger Oak Grove Police Officer Adam Vanderkolk.
When asked what his priorities for a second term would be, DeArmond said safety is always the top priority.
Vanderkolk agreed that being seen by the community is number one.
He adds this would help make a difference in the increased criminal activity.
DeArmond says the Sheriff's Department has been working with other agencies to combat the increase in crime.
Candidates were asked about recent legislation regarding training of Constables. DeArmond says he thinks the bills could be beneficial to the community.
Vanderkolk says he's worked with constables over the years and the bills will help better equip them.
DeArmond and Vanderkolk will face off in the May 17 Republican primary election. The sheriff's debate was the only on the agenda Wednesday.
The League of Women Voters' debates continue Thursday evening with candidates for Christian County County Clerk and Hopkinsville Mayor.
