The public, including pedestrians, who travel Walnut Street need to be prepared to take an alternate route when reconstruction begins Wednesday on the new bridge over the CSX railroad.
District 2 spokeswoman Keirsten Jaggers with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the new structure will have two lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the Walnut Street bridge that is located 475 northeast of 21st Street.
According to Jaggers, a detour sign will be in place to assist all motorists, but the transportation cabinet wants to emphasize the importance of the detour for commercial truck traffic. She says the detour provides routes that can accommodate commercial trucks by utilizing KY 380/Skyline Drive and US 41/9th Street for access by trucks requiring a larger turning radii.
The $2.9 million project is expected to be completed this fall.
