Five Hopkinsville and Christian County FFA members are the first recipients of the Troy Goode Memorial Scholarship.
Hopkinsville FFA Alumni and Christian County Agribusiness Association member Brandon Garnett presented the scholarships in memory of former Hopkinsville High School Vocational Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor Troy Goode at the Hopkinsville FFA Banquet Thursday night. The scholarship idea began with the Christian County Agribusiness Association as an effort to honor Troy Goode, who passed away in 2021.
After the initial commitment of $2,000 by the agribusiness association, the Hopkinsville Rotary Club committed an additional $4,000 to the scholarship fund. After Hutson John Deere purchased the Christian County 4-H country ham for a record price of $25,000 at the Christian County Salute to Agriculture Breakfast in March, they donated the ham to be sold at the Hopkinsville Rotary Auction. The sale of the ham during the 72nd annual Rotary Auction helped build the fund to allow the scholarship to be presented annually.
