A woman arrested last week in Union County in connection to a 2006 murder in Christian County was arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
Lashanda Person, also known as Lashanda Bell, was recently indicted on charges of murder and first-degree robbery of 84-year old Roscoe Mayes in April 2006.
Person and public defender Douglas Moore appeared before Judge Andrew Self, at which time Moore informed the court he did not represent her and she intends to retain a private attorney. Judge Self appointed the Department of Public Advocacy to represent Person until she hires a private attorney. During the arraignment, Moore entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Person.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported Person was arrested at a residence on KY 109 in Sturgis on May 11 after they were contacted by the U.S. Marshal’s Office that she had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Christian County.
A co-defendant in this case, 55-year old Regina Vause of Christian County was arrested on May 3 by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder and first-degree robbery.
The arrests came after the sheriff’s office reopened a cold case in connection to the death Mayes who was found deceased at 2255 Greenville Road on April 12, 2006. Investigators said that Mayes had died from blunt force trauma.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the cold case is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
