Vigilance Encouraged As Slight Increase In Local COVID-19 Cases Seen

With COVID-19 in the rearview mirror of most Americans, it isn’t completely gone and that has health officials worried that COVID apathy could lead to a return.

Cloie Rager with the Christian County Health Department said they have pivoted to other services provided by the health care agency but still monitor COVID cases in Christian County.

click to download audioAccording to the state, Christian County is no longer among the bottom five counties in the vaccination rate. That distinction belongs to Spencer County at 34-percent. Christian County is at 40-percent, compared to Trigg County’s 53-percent rate and 48-percent in Todd County. The statewide vaccination rate is 57-percent.

Gov. Andy Beshear said there was another increase in reported COVID-19 cases last week. He noted that hospitalizations remain low and stable but cautioned that Kentucky is seeing an uptick in the positivity rate, very few people are reporting the results of the mailed out rapid test kits to their health departments and hospitals.
