Over the last few weeks, more than $17 million of the West Kentucky State Aid Funding for Emergencies has been spread across 13 eligible counties and their cities, to help accommodate the cost for both some eligible and non-eligible FEMA expenses following the December 10 & 11 tornadoes.
During Thursday’s “Team Kentucky” update, Governor Andy Beshear announced another $586,000 is headed west Kentucky’s way.
Specifically, $500,000 is bound to the Caldwell County Fiscal Court, $36,000 is headed to the Lyon County Fiscal Court, and $50,000 is marked for the Marshall County Fiscal Court.
This is the fourth round of funding provided by Senate Bill 150, which was signed into law April 15 and provides more than $120 million total for emergency management needs.
Beshear said the application process will only continue for those 13 counties eligible, particularly as the cleanup and rebuild phase remains ongoing.
In a written statement to the governor, Caldwell County Judge-Executive Larry Curling said he was “grateful to receive the support,” and that the money awarded will “be used to offset some of the cost of debris removal that is ineligible for FEMA assistance. We realize, had it not been a a total Team Kentucky effort between Governor Andy Beshear and all our General Assembly members, this assistance would not have been possible.”
Beshear assured the fund would continue only to help west Kentucky.
