On June 4 at the Kentucky History Awards Celebration, the Kentucky Historical Society will be honoring 17 individuals and organizations for their ultimate contributions to the field of history.
Among those to be honored this weekend include the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville—Christian County, which earned the quite special Thomas D. Clark Award of Excellence, which is annually presented to a local history organization for outstanding achievement throughout the year.
Newly renovated and located at 217 East 9th Street in Hopkinsville, Museums of Historic Hopkinsville—Christian County offers deep cuts into southwestern Kentucky knowledge. From American psychic Edgar Cayce, to tales of the Black Patch Tobacco Wars and the vigilante Night Riders, to the Green Men of Kelly, Hopkinsville and Christian County have long been the backdrop for some of America’s most unique stories.
The Pennyroyal Area Museum, the Woody Winfree Transportation Museum and The Vault all, of course, play their part in telling the tales.
The awards will be presented in Frankfort as a kickoff event to Kentucky History Day. Breakfast and networking begin at 9:30 AM EST Saturday, and an awards presentation starts at 10 AM. Staff and curator-led tours, gallery talks, informative workshops and hands-on activities will follow.
