The ballot is set for the November general election in Trigg County while the race for sheriff continues to draw write-in interest.
There will be nine candidates for six seats for a two-year term on Cadiz City Council. The six incumbents — Brian Futrell, Susie Hendricks, Susan Bryant, Bob Noel, Frankie Phillips, and Brenda Price — have all filed for another term. They will face a challenge from Dustin Gilbert, Tim Bridges, and former councilwoman Jeannie Bodine. The top six vote-getters earn a spot on the city’s governing body.
Meanwhile, Todd King will be unopposed for a third term as Cadiz mayor.
Republican Sheriff Aaron Acree is unopposed for a first full term as sheriff but will face opposition from at least three write-in candidates. Mike Manzanares, a deputy on Acree’s staff, along with Ronald Mazac and former deputy and K-9 handler David Tomlinson have filed their intent to appear as a write-in candidate on the ballot. Prospective candidates have until October 28 to file their intent to appear as a write-in candidate and have their votes counted.
Three seats for Trigg County Fiscal Court will see opposition in November. In District 1, Democrat incumbent Mike Wright will face opposition from Republican challenger John Oliver. District 3 Republican incumbent Cameron Sumner will see a challenge from Democrat William Linton. In District 6, Republican Pat Bush will face off against Democrat Jan Culwell
Meanwhile, District 2 magistrate Barry Littlejohn, District 4 magistrate Jeff Broadbent, Alana Baker Dunn in District 5, and Mike Lane in District 7 are unopposed for Fiscal Court spots.
Stephen Washer, who was appointed circuit court clerk following the retirement of Pam Perry last year, will face opposition in November from Lisa Fuller-Thomas.
Candidates that will have no opposition in the fall and be elected to another term are county attorney Randall Braboy, county surveyor Randle Cruse, county clerk Carmen Finley, PVA Lauren Fowler, Jailer James Hughes, coroner John Mark Vinson, and Circuit Judge Jamus Redd.
Candidates unopposed in constable races are Ray Wyatt in District 2, John Oliphant in District 3, Kerry Fowler in District 4, John DeBlois in District 5, and Dennis Whitten in District 6.
Stan Humphries is unopposed for a new term as Trigg County judge-executive. Humphries served a term previously as judge-executive before serving as a state senator.
