‘Awaken Your Ancestors’ Continues Thursday At HCCPL

The Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library is hosting its continuation of the “Awaken Your Ancestors” series from 5-6 Thursday evening in the library community room, completing a “family group sheet.”

Family group sheets identify the “who’s who” in a family tree, and it leads participants back to original sources for moments of enlightenment where they may have hit a wall in discovery. A finished family group sheet then becomes a mini-biography of ancestry.

This class gives specific pointers on how to complete this sheet — which needs critical data filled with parents, children, locations and acceptable abbreviations. And it helps in keeping memories and family stories together.

The course will be led by HCCPL Genealogy Librarian Becky Quinten. She has a master’s degree in library science, with an emphasis in genealogy research and more than four decades of research experience.

HCCPL’s Genealogy Department has a digital collection of Kentucky New Era obituaries dating back to 1866. It includes 28 states and maintains an international scope, and it’s accessible and free at the library, thanks to an established and perpetual trust in memory of Joe McCarroll by brothers William and Charles.
