Weapons Suspect Arrested After Foot Pursuit

A traffic stop on Glass Avenue in Hopkinsville led to a short foot pursuit Sunday night.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle on Glass Avenue for its tail light being out and the vehicle traveled a short distance before turning onto Hanson Street and stopping. The passenger in the vehicle 22-year-old Jaquavius Whitlock then reportedly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot but was tased after he reached for his waistline multiple times.

Police say the female driver stated Whitlock threatened physical harm to her if she stopped the vehicle. Whitlock was found to have an active warrant on charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property, and using restricted ammunition during a felony (no shots fired).

The warrant stems from a single-vehicle wreck on November 9th when a stolen firearm loaded with a flanged 9 mm bullet was allegedly found where he had been standing after the wreck.

Whitlock is charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police.
