There will be some changes in the 56th Judicial District court races for the November General Election.
Local attorney Matt Schalk announced on social media Tuesday night that he is withdrawing from the Division I district judge race and is declaring his intent to be a write-in candidate for the Division II seat. Schalk said he made the decision after Judge Natalie White withdrew from the race for the Division II District Court Judge for the circuit.
Judge White has filed to run for the newly created circuit judge seat after action earlier this year by the General Assembly.
Schalk finished second to Brandon Knoth in the Division I District Court judge race in the May primary election. Just days after Knoth’s win, Governor Andy Beshear appointed him to replace Judge Jamus Redd who was appointed as the Division I Circuit Court Judge. That seat was vacated when Judge Woody Woodall retired at the end of January.
