The unemployment rate in the nine-county Pennyrile region ticked up slightly in May compared to April but showed a seven-tenths of a percent decline from May of last year.
Christian County’s May unemployment rate was 4.8% compared to 4.7% in April and 5.8% in May of 2021.
The estimates from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Christian County with a labor force of 24,701 people, which is an increase of 234 people from May of last year.
The numbers show 1,206 people actively seeking work in May compared to 1,436 a year ago.
In Trigg County, the May jobless rate was 4.1%, up from April’s 3.8% rate but down eight-tenths from May of last year.
The estimates show Trigg with a civilian labor force of 6,035 people, nearly identical to a year ago. The numbers show 248 people actively seeking work in May compared to 245 a year ago.
In Todd County, the May jobless rate was three percent, the lowest in the nine-county Pennyrile region. That was up a tenth-of-a percent from April and down sixth-tenths from May of 2021.
The estimates show Todd County with a civilian labor force of 5,453 people, which is a decrease of 42 people from last year.
The numbers show 164 people actively seeking work in May compared to 199 a year ago.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in nine Kentucky counties in May, fell in 107 counties, and stayed the same in four counties between May of last year and this year.
Woodford County and Cumberland County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.6%. Todd County had the 10th lowest in the state.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.9%. It was followed by 10 eastern Kentucky counties — all over 6.2%.
