The Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport will receive more federal grant money as it continues to meet a growing and changing need in the community.
U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s office announced the airport will receive $49,733 to construct a new apron.
Airport Manager Sherry Key said in a news release the construction of the new apron will help improve the airport’s service capabilities.
The latest funding from the Federal Aviation Administration is the fourth federal grant awarded to the airport in the past five years.
Last year, the airport received $32,000 in ARPA funds. Two years ago, over $49,000 was received to construct a new taxiway, and in 2017, the airport was the beneficiary of over $483,000 to install new runway lighting.
The airport, situated on 180 acres of land off Russellville Road, houses over 30 aircraft and will celebrate its 70th year of operation this November.
